Restore recently deleted photos and videos in Google Photos

Purpose

This guide shows you how to restore recently deleted photos and videos that are still in your trash in Google Photos.

Before you start

  • Backed up photos and videos stay in your trash for 60 days.
  • Photos and videos that weren’t backed up stay in your trash for 30 days.
  • This guide assumes you are using Google Photos on an Android phone or tablet.

Steps

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Photos app Google Photos app icon..
  2. At the bottom, select Collections.
  3. Select Trash.
  4. Select and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
  5. At the bottom, select Restore.

Result

Your photo or video will be back in:

  • Albums that it was in
  • Google Photos library
  • Device’s gallery app

Troubleshooting

  • Photo or video wasn’t in the trash?
    • Backed up photos and videos stay in your trash for 60 days.
    • Photos and videos that weren’t backed up stay in your trash for 30 days.
    • Instead of deleting the item, did you archive it? Check the Google Photos archive.
